Bird-proofing mesh around solar panels on a tiled roof.

Table Of Contents

AGCCO’s indicative solar panel bird proofing price is $24–$35 per linear metre, including GST, materials and installation. We measure the perimeter that needs protecting, rather than pricing the job simply by the number of panels.

The final quote depends on the panel layout, roof pitch, access and the work required. Cleaning underneath the panels is assessed separately on site because the amount and condition of hidden waste can vary considerably.

Expert insight from Dylan Howell, Director of Australian Gutter Cleaning Co., with 15 years in roofing and eight years in gutter cleaning. Updated 28 October 2026.

What does the price per metre cover?

The indicative range covers installing bird-proofing mesh around the solar panel perimeter. AGCCO uses PVC-coated aluminium mesh secured with stainless-steel hook fasteners. Waste removal from the agreed work is included.

This is a guide to our pricing, not a fixed rate for every property. A straightforward installation and a steep roof with several separate panel groups can involve very different amounts of work.

Why panel layout matters more than panel count

Every separate group of panels has its own perimeter. The same number of panels spread over several roof sections can require more mesh, more corners and more installation time than one compact group.

Roof pitch and access also influence the quote. We assess how the work can be carried out and what access arrangements are needed before committing to a price.

For example, 30 metres at $24–$35 per metre works out to $720–$1,050 including GST for the bird-proofing installation at that indicative rate. This is an arithmetic example, not a standard package or an estimate of your panel perimeter. Separately scoped cleaning or other work can increase the total.

Why cleaning underneath the panels is quoted separately

A small amount of loose debris is a different job from years of hardened pigeon waste and nesting material. From above, it can be difficult to see how much is concealed beneath the panels or how accessible it will be.

We assess under-panel cleaning on site and will usually provide a price range for that work. Accessible debris can be removed using our industrial vacuum and reach-pole equipment. Where panel removal is needed to gain access, a licensed electrician must handle the electrical work and removal and reinstatement of the panels.

Bird proofing, cleaning beneath the panels, washing the panel surfaces and clearing the gutters are separate parts of the scope. Your quote should make clear which are included.

How much does solar panel cleaning cost?

AGCCO offers panel-surface cleaning at an indicative $6–$10 per panel including GST, depending on the other services being completed. We offer this alongside other services, rather than as a standalone visit.

For 20 panels, that range equates to $120–$200 including GST for the panel wash. It does not include cleaning beneath the panels, bird proofing or any electrical work.

A panel wash addresses dirt on the surface. It does not resolve a nest underneath, repair damaged wiring or establish why a solar system has stopped working. Suspected electrical faults need an appropriately licensed electrician.

Fulham: when a clean-out needed an electrician

At a Fulham property, years of pigeon activity had left a significant accumulation of hardened waste beneath a solar system that had stopped working. A licensed electrician removed the panels so AGCCO could access and vacuum out the debris.

After the electrician reinstalled the panels, we fitted bird proofing around them. Dylan’s account of the result is straightforward: the pigeons never returned.

This was one property’s outcome. It illustrates why a severe build-up needs its own assessment and why a price for mesh installation alone cannot describe every job.

How long does installation take?

A typical AGCCO bird-proofing job takes around half a day, but timing depends on the property, access and cleaning required. Extensive waste, several panel groups or coordination with an electrician can change the schedule.

You generally do not need to be home if access has been arranged. We will explain what is needed for your property before the visit.

What matters when comparing quotes?

  • The full perimeter and every separate panel group being protected.
  • The mesh material, fasteners and suitability for the location, including coastal exposure.
  • Whether cleaning underneath, a panel wash and gutter cleaning are included or separately priced.
  • Access arrangements, waste removal and any electrician’s work.
  • The product warranty and its terms. AGCCO offers a three-year product warranty; this is not a promise that pigeons will never land elsewhere on the property.

The care taken at corners and joins matters. A gap can leave access beneath an otherwise covered array. Read how perimeter mesh differs from bird spikes.

Send your full property address so we can assess the layout and access. Tell us where you have noticed pigeon activity and whether you are seeking bird proofing, cleaning or both. Concealed waste beneath the panels still requires an on-site assessment.

Request a quote with your full property address and any known roof or access concerns. If you already have photos, include them; there is no need to climb onto the roof to take any.
